Clubs - How to Apply


For each of the clubs below, there is an information letter and application form for you to download. Complete the application form with payment and return it to the school SMPC box or as otherwise instructed in the letter. All cheques to be made payable to SMPC or South Morningside Parent Council.

Please note that not all clubs are open to every year group.

 

Chanter Club

(P3-P7 only)

This club runs on Wednesdays in the library.

3.50-4.20
4.20-4.50
4.50-5.20

Spaces are now available. A practice chanter, tuition book and CD rom will be required. This costs £36 and is available from the teacher.

 

Drumming Club

(P3-P7 only)

This club runs on Monday in the library.

The times are: 3.20-3.50
3.50-4.20
4.20-4.50
4.50-5.20

Spaces are now available. Pupils will require a pair of sticks and a practise pad that can be provided by the teacher at cost of £25.

 

 

Gymnastics and Fitness Club

(P2-P7)


The gym and fitness club runs on Wednesdays at the following times:

Beginners:3.30 – 4.10 pm
Intermediate/ advanced: 4.10 – 5.10 pm

Children can work towards attaining badges and certificates.

 

Skiing Lessons

(P4-P7)

SMPC is able to offer ski lessons at Midlothian Snowsports Centre (Hillend) on Fridays for pupils in Primary 4 – Primary 7.

Snowplough Turns - working towards level 3
Ski Surfer - to attain Surfer certificate
Plough Parallel - working towards level 4
Mountain Mini - to attain Mountain Mini certificate
Basic Parallel - working towards level 5
Parallel - working towards level 6
Advanced - working towards level 7
Performance Skiing - for children who have obtained Level 7

 

Snowboard Lessons

(P5-P7)

SMPC is able to offer Snowboarding lessons at Midlothian Snowsports Centre (Hillend) on Fridays for pupils in Primary 5 – Primary 7.

Judo Club

(P1-P7)

The Judo Club would like to invite new and returning students from P1-7 to join the fun!

Gym kit attire is appropriate.

 

Latin American Football

(P1-P5)

The popular club runs on a Friday evening in the school gym and the times are as follows:

Stage Club

(P5-P7)

The Club meets on Fridays, from 1:30 - 3:00 p.m. (eventually up to 3:30) in the school main hall.

This club will meet in the Autumn and Spring terms to rehearse two short stage musicals, which they will perform in March.

 

Basketball Club

(P6-P7)

It runs on a Tuesday between 4.30 – 5.45pm. Matches are organized as able.

The Basketball Club for P6 - P7 is a fantastic introduction to this fast paced game which develops teamwork, co-ordination and strength.

 

Recorder Club

(P4-P7)

Recorder lessons are on Tuesdays at the following times:
Beginners: 3.25 - 3.55 pm
Intermediate : 3.55 – 4.25 pm
Advanced: 4.25 – 4.55.

Own recorder required. If buying one Sara (the club teacher) recommends Aulos (approximately £13.00), which produce a better sound than cheaper models.

 

French Club

(P1-P7)

The French club runs most days at lunch time or after school. The emphasis will be on "Fun French", focussing on songs, games and conversation, relevant to the age and understanding of the group.

The Chess Club runs most Mondays between September and April from 7.00-8.00pm. The club is currently accepting new members for September 2009 from current P2-P6.

Guitar club

(P3 - P7)

Guitar lessons are run on Fridays after school. No previous guitar playing experience required. Times are:
Group 1 - 12:30 - 1pm
Group 2 - 1pm - 1:30pm

Groups are allocated on age and experience. Own acoustic guitar required, and electronic chromatic tuner recommended.
